One of my favorite events of the year, The Pasadena Showcase House of Design, is going on now through May 16th.  So that means you only have a couple of weeks to check it out and, believe me, you won’t want to miss it. 

This year’s remarkable property, located on what was once called Pasadena’s “Millionaire’s Row”, is the Cravens Estate at 1101 Orange Grove Boulevard. When the French baroque-style mansion was completed in 1930 it was one of the largest and most expensive ever built in the area. The nearly 20,000-square-foot structure was designed by architect Lewis P. Hobart, a man famous for, among other things, having a large role in rebuilding San Francisco after the devastating earthquake of 1906. At the time, the Cravens Estate included 50 rooms…

10th Annual Holiday Party

One of my fondest childhood memories is cruising down Christmas Tree Lane in Altadena with my family oh so many years ago. As many of you know, Santa Rosa Avenue--which the street is called during the rest of the year--is lined with with majestic, 100-year-old Deodar cedars, and the city has decorated them with old-fashioned Christmas lights for nearly a century. It's truly a spectacular scene.

When I had the chance to buy my beautiful house (although in horrible disrepair) on Santa Rosa in 1999, I jumped at it because not only was the architecture and lot very appealing, but the opportunity to relive such a special time of my youth was irresistible. Pasadena Showcase House of Design 2009

The Pasadena Showcase House of Design has already started and will go on till May 17th, 2009. For those that have never attended, you need to go and check it out. It is such a treat.  

Its actually in San Marino this year and it features an Italian Renaissance Revival home designed by the renowned Pasadena architect G. Lawrence Stimson (Built for his parents, Jennie and George Woodbury Stimson, who had been living in the Wrigley mansion now known as the headquarters for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association) has over 10,000 square feet of living space on two acres of grounds and gardens.

Rules and Forms in Place for $8000 First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit

Who is eligible for the $8,000 tax credit?

• First-time homebuyers who have not owned a principal residence for three years prior to purchase.
• The home must be purchased between January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009 (special note: the final date is December — not Dec. 31).
• Buyers must make less than $75,000 for singles or $150,000 for couples (higher-income buyers may receive a partial credit).

How can I claim the $8000 tax credit?

• You can claim the tax credit on the 2008 tax returns due April 15 or on the 2009 tax returns next year. Or, if you’ve already completed your tax return, you can file an amended return to claim the credit.
• The claim can be 10 percent of the purchase price up to $8,000, or $4,000 for married individuals…
